CAMARILLO, Calif., February 9, 2004 — Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ: ZBRA), a worldwide leader in bar code labeling and card printing solutions, today introduced its new P620 industrial strength card printer (NEED LINK) for demanding access control, security and identification applications that require reliable on-premise printing, crisp high resolution 300 dpi color fidelity, and maximum card security.

A patented micro-positioning card transport mechanism provides highly accurate card positioning that lets the P620 precisely print fine details such as ultra-small text, extremely sharp photo images, special printing effects including covert printing, and gray-on-gray graphics that are especially difficult to copy. The card is transported by a carriage that maintains precise registration throughout the entire process of picking, cleaning, and multi-pass printing, producing nearly perfect color-to-color registration with no slippage or deterioration of print quality over time.
The P620 also applies a tough protective film to both sides of the card in one pass with no waste. Such single-pass, dual-sided lamination maximizes the card's durability by protecting it from abrasion, color fading and alteration. Optional customized laminates with holographic images help prevent fraudulent reproductions of cards.
To further heighten card security, the P620 is equipped with an ID/Log enabled driver that builds a record of card transactions for uploading to a central archive of cardholder data, including photo, personal statistics, employee number, date and time of issue and other pertinent information. Another security option is ID/Key, which prevents unauthorized use of the P620.
The rugged design of the P620 features a full-metal enclosure, patented self-cleaning mechanism that removes surface contamination from card stock, and advanced printhead control that prevents overheating and reduces printhead wear. The card transport mechanism means there are no rollers to clean so maintenance is minimal. An easy-to-use Windows®-based bi-directional printer driver provides real-time status information.
