| Cards with M/Chip are Featured Demonstration at CardTech/SecurTech Conference-MAOSCO Booth 937 |
CAMARILLO, Calif., April 22, 2002 — Zebra Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: ZBRA), a worldwide leader in bar code labeling solutions and card printers, and UbiQ Inc., a leading software firm dedicated to the smart card industry, today announced that they will demonstrate how to personalize and print MasterCard smart cards using MasterCard's M/Chip™ credit and debit application. The demonstration will take place in the MAOSCO booth (937) at the CardTech/SecurTech conference in New Orleans, April 22 to 25. MAOSCO is the consortium formed to promote, develop and implement MULTOS, a high-security, multi-platform smart card operating system standard, which has been adopted by MasterCard and other financial institutions for smart cards.
To augment their present conventional magnetic stripe card issuing practices, attendees will learn how UbiQ's UbiQLink® smart card personalization software solution and Zebra's Eltron® P310 color card printer combine to issue fully personalized smart cards in a process that is already familiar to them. At the MAOSCO booth, attendees will discover that they simply need to load the UbiQLink software, follow the program's drop down menus and click the fields they want, type in any names or other specific information, and watch the Eltron P310 printer produce the finished printed card, including encoding the embedded M/Chip Select application.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with UbiQ," explained Veraje Anjargolian, VP and General Manager of Zebra's Card Printer Business Unit. "As smart card applications expand, financial institutions are faced with adding potentially costly new equipment and procedures to meet this growing demand. Recognizing this early on, UbiQ has assured smart card issuers that they can apply processes similar to those they already use when issuing magnetic stripe financial cards."
"Not only must smart cards be easy to personalize, they must be easy to print and make secure," asserted John Stearns, Chairman and CEO of UbiQ Inc. "That is why we are pleased to demonstrate our solution with the Eltron P310. It is a user friendly, affordable card printer with a compact footprint, and it incorporates an optional smart card contact station. Resulting cards are secure and extremely tamper-proof."
A similar system is being demonstrated this week at the Cards Asia Conference in Singapore.
