Zebra Technologies Awarded Patent for Card Printer Cleaning System |

| Innovative Design Improves Product Reliability, Optimizes Image Quality, and Reduces Overall Cost of Ownership in Eltron® brand Card Printers |
CAMARILLO, Calif., November 26, 2001 — Zebra Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: ZBRA) announced today that it received U.S. patent 6,285,845 B1 for its innovative card cleaning system used in the company's Eltron® brand plastic card printers. The patented design incorporates a disposable, adhesive roller within an easily removable cartridge frame.
The Eltron Card Printer cleaning system automatically cleans plastic cards before they are introduced into the print mechanism. The adhesive surface of the cleaning roller removes dust and debris, which can cause missed printing and color registration problems. Unlike other card cleaning designs, the disposable cleaning roller is a low-cost consumable item and reduces the overall cost of ownership of Eltron card printers, while increasing overall reliability and image quality.
The newly patented design was developed as a result of the company's strength in card printer applications in which non-technical operators with minimum training use card printers. The unique adhesive roller card cleaning technology was first introduced in the Eltron P310 plastic card printer and has been widely accepted as an industry standard since then. The basic challenge to the P310 design team was to find an easy, economical way to keep the printer clean, minimize downtime and maximize image print quality. Eltron® brand card printers are most often used in on-demand card printing environments where users expect reliable operation.

Zebra incorporates the patented cleaning system across the range of its Eltron Card Printer product line, including the recently introduced P200 Series, single sided card printers with unique front card loading and output particularly suited for countertop and check-out stand environments. Zebra's patented design is also incorporated into the new P720 dual sided printer with the Advanced "One-Pass" dual sided laminating. Designed for high security and durability card applications, the P720 simultaneously applies a waste-less, liner-less laminate material to both sides of the card.
