MAXICARD now supports contactless smart card printing for several of ELTRON Card Printer Products. |

CAMARILLO, Calif., August 11, 2000 — Zebra Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: ZBRA), the worldwide leader in bar code and plastic card printing solutions, announced today that one of their largest suppliers in Germany, MAXICARD GmbH, has announced their support for the contactless smart cards, thus widening their product range.
Eltron's card printer series P310, P420, P520 and P600 can now be used to produce the new smart cards using technologies such as Legic, Mifare and Hitag. You can, of course, still encode magstripes, standard chips as well as print personalised information such as names, barcodes or photos on the contactless smart card. Thus, both the requested information and the encoding can be completed in one process.
This new addition to MAXICARD's product range proves their determination to develop and grow within the dynamic printer card business. MAXICARD, together with ELTRON, have acknowledged the growing needs and demands for the contactless card. Smart cards are embedded with a metallic antenna coil that communicates with a larger, external antenna. This enables the card to be read in less than a second.
The contactless smart card has proven extremely successful with companies from the access-control and time attendance industry, where ELTRON Card Printer Products are already well established.
The hardware as well as the software can be developed by MAXICARD. Thus the encoding software can be integrated into the existing software CardFive/CardWork simply as a plug-in. In order to ensure that such an application is successful and supported, the integration of encoding and the antenna hardware is made at MAXICARD's own technical department, hence ensuring an optimal fit between all the various components. This ensures a closer working relationship between MAXICARD and their customers.
ELTRON Card Printer Products and MAXICARD have been working closely together for more than five years. Thus MAXICARD is able to support their motto "Maximum Service around the Card".
