Eltron P500 Card Printer Selected For Wisconsin Department Of Corrections Project |

CAMARILLO, Calif., October 15, 1999 — Zebra Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: Zebra), a leading manufacturer of plastic card printers and thermal bar code printers, today announced that Viisage Technology Inc., Littleton, Massachusetts, has selected Zebra's Eltron P500 card printer for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections identification system which will include 48 facilities statewide with all classes of prisons, juvenile corrections facilities and parole offices. Over 100,000 offenders, employees and visitors will be enrolled in the system.
The system includes one Eltron P500 printer in each of the 54 issuing facilities and is slated for completion in 2000. Once the initial enrollment is complete, the anticipated volume of card production is 20,000 annually.
The Eltron P500 is a dual station printing and laminating color printer used to produce high quality, tamper resistant cards. Viisage selected the Eltron P500 for the Department of Corrections because the system required a printer that would provide dual sided printing, bar codes, encoding of a magnetic stripe and the application of a 1 mil overlaminate.
The Wisconsin Department of Corrections is among the first to employ such a complete ID card printing program. Viisage's instant issue ID card system captures images of offenders in all branches of the penal system in Wisconsin. These images are "recognized" and stored centrally and can be searched electronically for matching images. The image database can be searched to assure that the person being incarcerated is the same person who was sentenced, and to prevent other forms of fraud. The system will also print ID cards and store images of parolees, visitors and Department of Corrections employees.
